Up for bid is a beautiful candy/nut dish from Queens Lusterware. This dish/bowl is triangular in shape, measures approx. 5-1/4" corner-to-corner, and about 2-1/2" in height, has the silver fade approx. 1/3 of the way down, and is in EXCELLENT shape with no cracks, scratches, or other damage.

Comes in original box with the original tag !!!

Vitreon Queen's Lusterware can be seen on the current television show "Mad Men."

The silver fade or silver ombre glassware has been made famous for their recent appearances in Don Draper’s office on Mad Men. On many websites selling vintage barware they have been coined as Dorothy Thorpe.  Although similar in style, Dorothy Thorpe glasses have banded silver tops.  She did not design glasseware with a silver fade design.  The silver fade or silver ombre barware are made by Vitreon Queen’s Lustreware, ltd. 

Vitreon Queen’s lusterware, ltd. was started by Sidney Sigety.  His home and business was based in Brooklyn, NY.  Queen’s Lusterware’s heyday was in the mid 50’s and 60’s, the same era as Dorothy Thorpe.  Queen’s Lusterware features the signature ‘silver fade’ or ‘silver ombre’ effect on glassware.

Lusterware is a type of pottery or porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence, produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish, which is given a second firing at a lower temperature in a reduction kiln.

This is 'New Old Stock' which refers to a 'lot' or 'bulk' of items that have been discovered tucked away from an old store or business. Generally these items are in their original packaging which generally has 'shelf dust,' but the actual item has been protected. This box was found in the attic of an old house in Brooklyn, NY !!!
