Vintage Cast Iron Trivet with Ceramic Tile of Florida - Mid 1970's

We picked up this Cast Iron Trivet with a Ceramic Tile of Florida at an Estate sale.    We thought it would be relatively straight forward to identify and get a bit of history on this item ..... where and when it was manufactured.

We later found out that we came up with a very intersting find ......

The first picture shows the front of the Trivet.   A nice piece in Very Good condition.  Measuring 11 1/4 inches x 7 1/4 inches x 7/8 inches and weighing 1 pound 3 ounces.

The second picture is the back of the trivet.

The third picture is where it gets interesting .....   it is a close up of the back of the ceramic tile.   On the top of the tile it says PILKINGON on the bottom ENGLAND.

There is a PILKINGTON Pottery & Tile in Manchester, England.   Pilkington's Lancastrian Pottery & Tiles was a manufacturer of tiles, vases and bowls, based in Clifton, Greater Manchester, England. The company was established in 1892 at Clifton Junction, alongside Fletcher's Canal. The company employed talented designers, the most famous of whom was Charles Voysey. Production of art pottery was stopped at the end of the 1930s, although tile production continued.

However, this tile reads PILKINGON not PILKINGTON .....

As far as I have researched PILKINGTON never made any tiles of Florida .... most of thier tiles were of the English countryside

We believe it is a fake of a PILKINGTON tile that was made in Japan, with a typo ....  Much like a fake Rolex or a ROTEX watch sold on the streets of NYC.   Or as a friend put it  "Made is Japan made with "less than truthful" info!"

The Fourth picture is a close up of the PILKINGON and if you look at the cast iron at the top it is marked JAPAN.

Still a nice collectible trivet in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT condition !  No visable paint loss or rust.  With a light dusty like patina in the grooves and crevices of the design.  Can be used to keep your table safe from heat or displayed on the wall !!

We believe this trivet is from the mid 70's.   This item was in a small collection of cast iron trivets from an Estate sale in Upstate NY.  The owner told us that they have been in his wife's China cabinet since the 1970's.
